Overview



Trellian FTP is a file transfer client that allows you to transfer files between your PC and any FTP server on the Internet. It comes complete with a list of the most popular FTP sites so you can access drivers, shareware and other software via the Internet. Trellian FTP is the next generation of FTP clients, providing many advanced features such as Drag and Drop file transfer, Multi-Site Download and Connection Hammer.

Trellian FTP allows you to quickly and easily upload your website to the Internet. The Compare feature lets you see at a glance which files have been updated or are missing and will upload them with the click of a button. Trellian FTP also stores your web host's profile to make future uploads a breeze.

Trellian FTP combines functionality with ease - of - use. It has an intuitive interface so that uploading your website, transferring files and downloading data from web servers becomes simple and easy.

Have you ever been halfway through downloading an important application and remembered that you need another file from a completely different server? Trellian FTP allows you to connect to multiple servers at once, while downloading the latest version of eComm PRO you can get the latest patch for your Operating System from a completely different site.

There is no limit to the number of connections you can have at the one time. What about those sites that tell you to try again later and keep on denying you access because too many users are logged on? Trellian FTP has a feature, which allows you to HAMMER the connection with the server, giving you that one up on the other people trying to connect. Trellian FTP is packed with handy extras. The interactive Help feature guides you through every step of the process. The Resume Download feature lets you continue your downloads where they left off, saving you from having to start your interrupted downloads again from scratch.

Registering Your Program



To register and upgrade your software, you will need to obtain registration details. To purchase a registration key from the Trellian web site, Select Register from the Help menu of FTP, and click on the "obtain registration key" link. Alternatively you may purchase the software from an authorized Trellian software reseller.

Once you have all of your details ready, follow these steps to register FTP.

Step 1. - Select Register from the Help menu.



Step 2. - Enter your registration details. Registration details are case sensitive. Your username will be the email address you registered with. If you have lost your registration details, click the relevant link on the registration window, and follow the instructions. Click the Next button to continue. If your registration details are accepted, a thank you message is displayed



Step 3. - FTP will then begin searching for any missing components that you may be entitled to download. It will then to ask you whether you would like to download these components. Click Yes to upgrade now, or you can upgrade the components at a later date. If you do not upgrade, the full program features may not be available

Upgrading



To keep FTP current, upgrades should be installed from time to time. These upgrades are free to all registered users.

To download the latest upgrade, select the Upgrade option from the File menu. LiveUpgrade will contact the upgrade server to check if there are any upgrades available.



All available components will be displayed in the selection list. All items that can be upgraded will be marked with a red clock icon. If FTP requires upgrading Internet Studio will be marked with a red clock. To upgrade the FTP, tick the checkbox next to Trellian FTP and click the Upgrade button. All available upgrades will then be downloaded, including manuals.

Items marked by a grey dot have not been installed.

Items marked with a green tick are current and no update is required.

Using Trellian FTP



This chapter explains how to use Trellian FTP




 

Before Starting



If you are accessing the internet via a proxy server, first make sure that the proxy address and port settings are entered correctly in Preferences. If you have a direct connection to the internet, you can leave the proxy address blank, otherwise if the correct address is not specified, FTP will not be able to connect to the Internet. Your ISP will inform you whether you need to access the Internet via a proxy.



 

Connecting to an FTP site



To connect to an FTP server click the Connect button. Trellian FTP will display the Profile Manager.



Trellian FTP includes a list of popular FTP sites.To connect to a pre configured FTP server select an FTP server from the FTP Servers list and click the Connect button. The Hammer function continually attempts to connect to a full FTP server without waiting the usual retry time. Note: Some FTP servers will ban your IP address for hammering


To connect to a different FTP server click New to enter the details of a new FTP site. When finished, click the Save to save the new site for future use. Click the Connect button to connect to the new site.



Profile Name
A name for the FTP site profile

Host Address
The address of the FTP site eg. ftp.trellian.com

Port
The port to connect on. Usually 21 for FTP.

Username
The username used to access the FTP site

Password
The password used to access the FTP site

Anonymous Login
Tick this checkbox to login anonymously

Save Password
Tick this checkbox to save the password

Account
Used by some old FTP servers. Leave blank if unknown

Local Directory
The path of the local directory to display

Remote Directory
The path of the remote directory to display

Use Passive Transfer Mode PASV
Permits FTP access through firewalls and NAT by allowing the client to initiate data transfers.

Convert filenames to Lower case
Converts all filenames to lower case letters

Convert directories to Lower case
Converts all directory names to lower case letters

Comment
Enter any comments or notes in this field

 

Transferring Files



To transfer files, first connect to the FTP server. The local files are shown in the left panel of Trellian FTP and the remote files (FTP server) are shown on the right. Browse to the local or remote directory containing the file(s) to transfer and ensure the correct path is set for the receiving directory. The image below shows a download ready to go.



Transferring files is as simple as clicking a button with the arrows pointing in the direction of the file transfer. Click the << button to transfer files from the FTP server to the local computer or the >> button to transfer files from the local computer to the FTP server.



File transfer information (transfer rate, percent complete etc) is shown at the bottom of the window.



When the transfer is complete, the status bar shows "Transfer complete"




 

Disconnecting from an FTP Server



To disconnect from an FTP Server click the Disconnect button located at the top right of the window.





 

Batch Transfers



Trellian FTP allows multiple files to be added to the batch transfer list and downloaded at a later time. To add files to the batch list right click the file and select Add to batch from the popup menu.



To display the batch transfer window click the Tools menu and select Batch Transfer. The batch transfer window shows the files in the list. To start the batch transfer click the Start button. To clear the list click the Clear button.





 

Directory Compare



The compare feature compares the local and remote directories and highlights files have been updated or are missing. To compare files browse to the local and remote directories then click the Compare button. Any missing or changed files will be highlighted.

In the image below the file smapr103.exe is missing from the local directory and has been highlighted by the compare function.




Preferences

Language



To change the language that Trellian FTP uses, select a language from the Options menu.





 

Settings





Browser:
Enter the path to your web browser. Trellian FTP will use this browser to open any web pages within the program.

Anonymous Login Email:
When logging in anonymously an email address is often required as a password. Enter an email address to use in this field.

Connection Hammer Delay:
The number of milliseconds to wait between connection attempts

Hammer Retry Count:
The number of connection retries when hammering

Server Timeout Delay:
The timeout delay determines how long Trellian FTP will wait for a response from the server when issuing commands.





 

Options





Open HTML pages in a new browser window:
Opens each page in a new browser window.

Auto refresh remote directory listing:
Periodically refreshes the remote directory listing

Sort directory listings:
Sorts directory listings by file type and filename



 

Firewall/Proxy





Proxy:
If you need to use a Proxy Server to connect to the internet, you should specify the address of the proxy. If you find that Trellian FTP is unable to connect, you should check and make sure that both the address and the port of your proxy are correct.

Port:
Specifies the port to use if using a Proxy.

Username:
Specifies the username to use when accessing the Proxy. (Not required on all proxy servers, please ask your System Administrator for help if unsure)

Password:
Specifies the password to use when accessing the Proxy. (Not required on all proxy servers, please ask your System Administrator for help if unsure)

 

Sound





Browse:
Allows you to browse your hard drive for sound files that you may assign to certain program events

Play:
This function allows for the preview and playback of all sound files you select

Event/Sound:
Provides a list of program events and all of the sounds assigned to that particular event

OK:
Assigns the sounds to the events you have selected



 

Auto-rename





Auto-rename allows you to set local and remote auto renaming masks for file transfer.

Creates a new mask

Interface


The Trellian FTP window is divided into different sections. The local filesystem is shown at the top left, and the remote filesystem at the top right. The FTP commands issued to and from the FTP server are listed in the bottom panel. The status bar at the bottom of the window shows the status of the connection.
